Hapag-Lloyd informs about MPI clearance requirements for import cargo prior moving to Metroport Auckland
Since 2009, there has been a requirement for all containers to be cleared before leaving a port. To date, import containers moving from Tauranga to MetroPort Auckland could be transported without full MPI clearance, as they were observed by a MPI accredited person prior to movement.
This process does not meet the revised Sea Container Import Health Standard (IHS). In order to comply with this standard, all cargoes must be MPI cleared prior to moving to Metroport, effective July 1, 2012.
To ensure containers can continue to flow freely through to Metroport, please provide your container information to MPI at least 12 hours prior to vessel arrival for risk assessment purposes.
