Hapag-Lloyd informs about “strategic commodities” regulations at Hong Kong.
We would like to inform you that there are certain kinds of machinery such as cutting machines, punching machines and milling machines, which are classified as “Strategic Commodity” and controlled by the “Hong Kong Trade & Industry Department” under the regulation of “Strategic Commodity Control - Material Processing”.

According to the regulation, in the event that any of such machinery is being transshipped via Hong Kong, it is a requirement to apply for Import and Export Licenses from the Department at least 7 days prior to the machinery’s importation and exportation to and from Hong Kong.
If further clarification is required by the authorities, customers shall submit all relevant information such as machinery specifications, category and technical details through our Transport Disposition Team.
